I’ve been finding the movie we’ve been watching in class pretty interesting. I think the movie brings up a number of good points that are swept under the rug. The Columbine scene that we watched today was pulled on my emotional strings and I felt disgusted about how easy it is for people to have guns. The violence in the world is definitely brought to light in this movie. It’s almost devastating to watch such events take place. Footage of the twin towers being attacked is also a scene that stands out in my mind. I don’t think Americans will ever be able to see the footage of that day without being angry and hurt. I think the movie brings up points that cause people to go crazy that the media doesn’t like to focus on. I think it’s good to consider other possible triggers of anger rather then your typical stereotypes, like the example of Marilyn Manson that was shown. The movie, I think, tries to depict the idea that America’s gun and violence is out of control to the point of being ridiculous.
Justine, I do indeed see your points. Although you should look at it in another view. Some people use guns for means of protection. Although sometimes guns do get put in the wrong hands we do need to consider the fact that some people do use them for protection. If people can not afford alarm systems, have a high paying job, or are famous, all of these people could need them to protect themselves. Guns definitely have their pros and cons, but sometimes it is good to take a look at the other side of the issue as well.
I do agree that it is disturbing to watch such horrifying events, such as Columbine and 9-11, but there are people out there who are responsible with their guns. I come from a hunting family, and was raised to learn how to handle a gun with care. The people in this world who abuse their rights are ruining it for the many people who are careful and mature. I do agree that there need to be changes in gun control, but many people do use them appropriately, for the use they are intended for. That is, not killing other people.
